From November 2023 to February 2024, I was given the opportunity to intern at Warren and Mahoney Architects in Auckland and was lucky enough to have a chance to work on the Downtown West project shown here.
Through the program, I had the privilege to immerse myself in various projects including public stadium proposals and pedestrian bridge concepts, as well as this mixed-use commercial precinct. Within the Downtown West project, I produced facade rationalisation studies used in these renders, and other planning / rendering concept documentation, approaching issues from both architectural and optimisation perspectives. Other projects provided me with the platform to enhance my skills in parametric design, particularly with Rhino and Grasshopper, collaborating closely with both engineers and architects to rapidly produce design options, renders, and 3D printed models.
As a student of both architecture and engineering, I was fortunate to be able to collaborate with both structural engineers and architects across different projects. The extent to which this has enhanced my understanding of both fields and their relationships is unimaginable, and I am walking away from the program more passionate about both fields than before.
